Did you know that in African cuisine, simple but powerful, the secret lies in the seasonings and vegetables, and there’s always a touch of the exotic? In the heart of Faro, ‘Crioula’ offers an alternative gastronomy. House frontman is Rene Barbosa, a percussion player from Cape Verde’s Ilha do Fogo, who instantly makes everyone feel at home. Instead of habitual bread and butter try the Cape Verdean spicy sausage (€2). For main course there is Cachupa (€9) - a rich African speciality made with maize with beans, and various types of meat and vegetables – as well as traditional Caldo do Peixe (Fish Broth) (€8). But the real speciality here is Crioula’s sangria – made with chopped fresh fruit. On Friday’s there’s live music. If you’re lucky, you could get to hear Rene play.
