It’s normal for anyone living in the Algarve to travel to Faro Airport regularly, either to
drop people who are leaving, or pick up those who are arriving – there’s always some reason. Our suggestion: if you want to say ‘goodbye’ in style, or ‘welcome’ even better, there’s a place nearby offering the best Portuguese food. Casa José de Matos has been in business for half a century. The menu is full of well-priced regional dishes. And, the main speciality is the ‘Arroz de Lingueirão’ (an aromatic rice cooked with razor clams, €11.30). There is also a lot of excellent fresh fish to grill, and, of course, the traditional ‘cataplanas’ (fish stews). For dessert, there are homemade delicacies – but the best is outside: a nice walk beside the ocean…
