António dos Mártires Sousa, the owner, says that he’s been open for 17 years, and that he’s been working in the business for close on three decades. The usual couvert includes a surprise – two, piping hot saltcod parcels. And a fresh cheese from Tavira. The chef recommends Tuna Steak Algarvestyle (€9), Spicy Prawn and Bean Casserole (€12), and Turbot Casserole (€12.50). If you prefer meat, there’s plenty to choose from. Anything between a simple Turkey Steak with Mushrooms (€8.50), and barbecued ‘black’ pork (€9) – dishes to suit every wallet. There’s also fresh fish for grilling – but we recommend you try something a little more on the expensive side. As a main course, we recommend one of the house specialities – such as a tender fillet of beef, grilled and served on a wooden platter.
