The Love Food
Vegan cooking for everyone

The inspiration behind the idea comes from Maria de Oliveiras Dias, 28, self-taught, and a vegetarian since the age of 12. When she was just 17 years old, Maria moved to Paris where she studied acting, and developed her form of vegetarian cookery “at the time, strongly inspired by French cuisine”. Now living in central Portugal – where she has her biological vegetable garden, Maria divides her time between «The Love Food» and her job in business management.
Her target following is “all the people who want a more healthy diet, lighter and more nutritious, without too many fats, and with the absolute minimum of sugar”. In other words, people “who need more information on the practical aspects of becoming vegetarian, or even vegan”.
“I decided to develop this project presenting vegan cooking as I know it can be – and the way I think it should be: simple, accessible, easy to put into practice and capable of leading to delicious results”.
“But more than this, I also decided to show that ingredients, and vegan cooking, can be cheap”. The author also wants to “incorporate a very important aspect: all my recipes will convince, and I hope convert, the most inveterate carnivore!” Is it possible that she’s being too ambitious?
In «The Love Food», Maria de Oliveira Dias also includes gluten-free and diabetic recipes, which she says, are not easy to find and help people with special needs discover an alternative way of eating.
Asked if this isn’t too radical an option, the author disagrees, saying: “ people who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet do so, most of the time, because they want a more ecological lifestyle, and one that doesn’t prejudice animals. They also want to be more healthy, and this way feel better, and with more vitality. So, this can only be a positive thing. A much more pertinent question would be: what’s the harm in this kind of diet?”
Although, for the time being, it’s simply presented in blog form, there are lots of plans to develop the concept, and the author may well bring out a book shortly, or at least market the idea in a more commercial format. Thus, for the moment, it’s a good idea to make the most of what’s on offer…
