A growing trend throughout Europe, birdwatching is a pastime that involves looking out for birds in Nature, using the naked eye, binoculars and/ or telescopes.

Although it’s still not that popular with Portuguese, it’s hugely enjoyed by many tourists from Northern Europe.

Just in the UK, for example, the largest bird-watching association has 2.5 million members.

After a long period simply promoting the sand and sea, this brochure is part of a plan to make up for lost opportunities.

“Turismo do Algarve” is also creating conditions within the region for tourists to get the most out of birdwatching. Among other interesting information, the brochure suggests 11 areas rich in birdlife, from the Serra do Caldeirão to Ria Formosa, and identifies 20 species easy to find in the various areas suggested.
