Indeed, the first Alisuper to reopen its doors was in Quinta do Lago, followed by various others throughout the Algarve. According to Tuta, «Terra Exclusiva» will substitute Alicoop until November, and manage what is the Algarve’s largest chain of supermarkets.

The former Socialist mayor explained that the invitation to preside over the firm was a “challenge” presented to him by stockholders of the Alisuper cooperative. He took over as sole administrator on 9th August, the day that around 150 suppliers and Alicoop creditors formalised the creation of «Terra Exclusiva».

Carlos Tuta was for 27 years the president of the borough of Monchique – and, as such, the longest running mayor in the Algarve – until finally being defeated in the October 2009 elections by Social Democrat Rui André.
