According to data supplied by «European Company Survey», it’s estimated that around 75 per cent of the nation’s businessmen admit to using green receipts, short-term contracts, or part-time workers.

In a year marked by the economic crisis, “around 66 per cent of Portuguese businessmen admitted to using fixed-term contracts – and almost 35 per cent admitted to using independent labour”.

The inquiry, led by Eurofound, conducted interviews in companies with more than 10 workers during the first months of 2009 – questioning them on practices from the year before.

The results put “Portugal in second position among 30 countries (including three candidating to join the EU), and only above Poland”.

Eurofound explained that the use of freelance labour – which includes green receipts – is a growing trend.
