The inquiry – conducted throughout 2009 – revealed that the majority of citizens are discontent, and consider the PSP don’t do everything in their power to defend people.

The study took place in partnership with the syndicated association of police professionals (ASPP) and involved 914 Portuguese citizens.

Its concluding text cited that “the PSP does not offer adequate training or necessary resources for the correct performance of its functions”.

Those interviewed also considered the PSP too lenient with criminals - although the institution has improved in image and efficiency over the last decade.
