Data from the “Sociedade Ponto Verde” (SPV) reveals that Algar collected a total of 24.191.5 tons of waste matter – corresponding to 57.4 kilos per inhabitant.

This total is, once again, the best presented by all the waste collection systems adhering to SPV in continental Portugal, and the second best on a general level (taking in the islands of Azores and Madeira).

In all, Algar collected 7.834 tons of paper/ cardboard, 2.150 tons of plastic and 13.201 tons of glass.

Also collected were 644 tons of wood, and 362 tons of metal.

Algar bosses conclude “Algar has enjoyed a growing proximity with Algarve boroughs over the last few years – through environment awareness and educational campaigns, but also on a social solidarity level with local communities”.
