Faro Airport gets ready for the future

Works are already underway at Faro Airport to receive triple the number of passengers that annually pass through the terminal.

At the moment, 5 million passengers use Faro Airport (arrivals and departures) – but according to airport director António Correia expansion work is ongoing that will increase the number of planes passing through from 22 per hour to 30.

The ramp is the infrastructure that will be upgraded the most – but according to the complexity of the plans, the work won’t be going ahead this year.

Instead, works are beginning on the circulation pistes and construction of an Instrument Landing System (ILS) on runway 10 – an investment of approximately 30 million euros.

It’s estimated that the full restructuring project should be completed by 2013.
