Spanish boycott Portuguese tolls

Fenadismer, the Spanish transport federation, is boycotting the new supposedly easier-to-pay tolls system for foreigners, arguing that transfrontier cooperation must be protected.

The Efe news agency quotes Fenadismer’s secretary general Juan Antonio Millán saying his association has always defended the “supression” of tolls or, at very least, the creation of zones with a radius of 100 km when close to frontiers, so that cross-border cooperation can continue unaffected by extra charges.

Millán talks of “fraud” and says his association has already presented Spain’s government in Madrid with the “most energetic of protests” for what is happening on Portugal’s formerly free motorways.
