“Crucifixion” for politicians over tolls
The independent “Citizens with Faro in their Hearts (CFC)” movement has criticised recent comments by disgraced borough Mayor Macário Correia over the extension of toll exemptions on the A22, considering them offensive to Algarvians.

Leader of the movement, and former Mayor himself, José Vitorino accused Correia of being part of a “sad gallery of slaves that carry out the wishes of powers in Lisbon, just as happened in the times of Salazar”.
For Vitorino, the Algarve has become a battleground with two camps: the obedient/ smug camp on one side - made up of the dominant party-political classes, and the agonized Algarvians on the other. He concludes, “those that accept the tolls should be judged and made responsible for all the damage they have caused. For now, they deserve the condemnation of the people. In history they will be crucified”.
