New bridge for Faro - or just another pipe-dream?
Macário Correia, Mayor of Faro, has come up with a “pre-project” for a new bridge and accesses to Faro Island – with separate lanes for cars, bicycles and pedestrians.

The plan would cost at least two million euros, and as yet there is no means of finance on the horizon.
The idea, which includes an exterior car park, actually came from the Sociedade Polis Litoral da Ria Formosa (PLRF) – a body that came into being in June 2008 with 22.5 million euros for urban and environmental recovery of the area.
PLRF is due to be wound up at the end of 2012, with all its projects completed. Nine months from this date however, and there’s still a lot to be done…
