Animal “holocaust” in Lagoa

The “slaughter” has been going on “for years” – but despite constant complaints by local people, the authorities have “done nothing”. Now, an open group on facebook is cranking up the pressure by alerting TV stations to what they call “the animal slaughter in Lagoa”.

As group member André Meleiro points out: “There are no laws here that protect animals, which is why the authorities can do nothing. We’re all aware of the bureaucracy in Portugal.” At issue are “a number of dead animals” on the land “already in advanced stages of decomposition and requiring buriel.

The live animals are visibly malnourished, sick - and that’s before we discuss the conditions in which they’re being kept - in the middle of rubbish and carcasses in various stages of putrefaction”. As another group member puts it: “There are no words”.
