Emerging data shows that there has been an 18% increase in the number of homes returned to banks by families and estate agents – while banks seized 19 homes every day last year due to lack of payments.
The figures come from APEMIP, the property agents’ association. Further analysis shows that a total of 6.900 homes were “returned to banks” last year – 1000 more than during 2010 – while house sales dropped by 7.2% compared to the year before. But it wasn’t all bad news. Property sales in December were “very positive”, with 19.000 homes sold, bringing sale totals for 2011 to 194.000.
