And good riddance “Allgarve”
But, apparently no-one misses it! The “Allgarve” programme began in 2007, under the direction of the then Minister for the Economy Manuel Pinho.

It received annual budgets to the tune of five million euros, but, said Cecília Meireles, “it really wasn’t the best way to promote” the Algarve, and everyone involved reported negative feedback and returns – while response by international tourists was always well below that which had been expected.
Hoteliers association president Elidérico Viegas agreed that it was “a name that never really established itself” and which many “took to be a spelling mistake”! At the end of the month, the university of the Algarve will be publishing their “free” study of the programme, as requested by ERTA … and which will end up effectively costing 42.000 euros!
