All gone “Allgarve”

This year may well see an end to events under the “Allgarve” cultural programme. Although resisting the demise, ERTA, the regional tourism board, is advancing with an alternative plan for 2012.

At a press conference last Friday, António Pina revealed that ERTA would be parting with its “house silver” in order not to let the region be “weakened” by a dearth of events for the summer season.

The idea is to use the 100.000 euros that ERTA has available to promote events organised by borough councils. Lamenting the 30% cut to ERTA’s budget this year, Pina admitted that “he didn’t like” learning about the Government’s plan to drop “Allgarve” via declarations to the press made by Secretary of State for Tourism Cecília Meireles, at a tourism fair in Madrid, at which Pina was also present…
