Mendes Bota against Monchique mining

PSD/ Algarve deputy Mendes Bota has once again used Parliamentary Questions to speak out against proposals for the mining of feldspar in Monchique. Considering the plans “would be a serious blow to the economy, environmental equililbrium and natural landscape of the Algarvian borough”, he said in a letter dated 22nd January that the issue is tantamount to a “crime against the motherland”.

To insist on mining “in an area that is so sensitive to the risks of pollution would be a barefaced case of negligence towards our cultural and environmental heritage. And it would be particularly damaging for Monchique’s inhabitants – the most prejudiced of all in this story, and who up until now have not been properly considered or informed”, he argues.
