Government puts 7 town councils under microscope

Paulo Simões, secretary of state for local administration and reform, has already approved a list of “inspections” to take place in 2012.

Among them are seven Algarve borough councils: Faro, Alcoutim, Aljezur, Lagos, Loulé, Portimão and Tavira (last inspected in 2008).

In his announcement on the upcoming inquiries, Simões said that they would be ongoing “irrespective of any other inspections” or “searches” that might already be underway. His department’s website already details results of other checks that have taken place throughout the country.
