Algarve scores points abroad

Despite the crisis at home, and growing unemployment in the region, the Algarve is seen very positively from abroad. It has been considered the best golfing destination, winning the “best value for money” Europe Continental prize run by British magazine “Today’s Golfer Travel Awards”.

That puts us ahead of Turkey and the Costa Brava in Spain. According to the magazine, the Algarve scored 32% votes from a universe of 3.276 readers. Meantime, “The New York Times” newspaper has voted the Algarve as one of the best places to visit in 2012.

In a list of 45 world destinations, the Algarve came in 29th place, in front of the Dominican Republic, Croatia and even France! In a very long article dedicated to the 45 winning choices, the Algarve is described as “the Riviera of Portugal”. First place, according to the magazine, goes to Panama, followed by Finland (Helsinki) and Myanmar. London, England, appears in 4th position.
