PCP highlights “serious difficulties” at UNICA
Two Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) deputies, Paulo Sá and Agostinho Lopes, have questioned the government over the “serious financial situation” at ÚNICA, the Adega Cooperativa do Algarve, based in Lagoa - and the last wine cooperative left in the region.

A delegation visited the large building recently – now a joint project involving the cooperatives of Lagos and Lagoa – and found “a high level of degradation, with dire necessity for investment and improvements”.
Wine production at the adega has dropped markedly over the last few years: of the two million litres of wine produced in 2009, only 600.000 are expected for 2011. Both Sá and Lopes have asked the government how it is planning to “support” ÚNICA, or help “wine production in the Algarve region”…
