Controversy over plans to chop Loulé’s heli-ambulance

The Algarve’s PSD deputies, Mendes Bota and Elsa Cordeiro, have questioned the government over plans to take INEM’s helicopter-ambulance (stationed at Loulé) out of nighttime service in the Algarve. The chopper serves the whole region, as well as that of the Lower Alentejo.

An end of its valuable nighttime services “will not only impact on serious accidents and casualties, but also on the Algarve’s image as a safe tourist destination”, argue the deputies, saying the decision also comes at a time when the EN 125 is over-congested due to the introduction of tolls on the motorway.

It was only recently that Loulé Borough Council invested €800.000 in the heliport (70% of which came from the EC) to GUARANTEE nighttime service, as requested by INEM itself…
