Lagos opposes toll prices and health tariffs

Lagos municipal assembly has taken a number of stands against the Government’s austerity measures.

In a heated meeting last week, the assembly decided to “reject as unacceptable, the increases in health tariffs” – criticising the move as “purely economistic and unjust”, particularly as more than 100.000 Algarvian families do not have a family GP, and therefore have to use hospitals for any small health problem.

Lodging the protest with the Health Ministry, the assembly went on to discuss tolls on the A22, saying these too were “unacceptable”. The protest was preceeded by calls from the Algarve’s four PSD deputies to reduce toll prices from 9 cents per kilometre, to 4 cents.
