A22 tolls: border boroughs fight back!
The boroughs of Vila Real de Santo António, Alcoutim and Castro Marim are fighting back against the imposition of tolls on the A22 Via do Infante.

They’ve mounted a leafleting campaign at the frontier with Spain, informing Andalusians that there’s no need to pay tolls (or buy the €25 device marketed for this purpose) if they wish to visit any of the neighbouring boroughs - as there are two free “exits” off the motorway that can be used to reach any of the three destinations.
The campaign comes in a bid by local businesspeople to turn-round the “significant fall” in the number of Spanish visitors since the tolls came into effect. Leaflets – in three languages – are to be distributed in Ayamonte, Huelva and Seville.
