Happy Christmas, Algarve!

The objective is to take presents – purchased specially for the occasion – to some of the social welfare institutions in Faro. This year, the parade made deliveries to the Refúgio Aboim Ascensão children’s home and the Obra de Madre Teresa de Calcutá. Motoclube president José Amaro is frank however about his sadness for the social dilemma in which we’ve all been plunged.
“This year is difficult for everyone, and it’s all the fault of politicians! The tolls (on the A2) were a great end-of-year present for Algarvians”, he grimaced. At the end of their cavalcade, the Santas congregated at Praça da Pontinha to distribute 50 kilos of “bolo-rei” and 120 bottles of port to the many onlookers, family members and friends that came to join the party.
Mayor Macário Correia was there also. “Let’s hope that the coming year is one of resistance and combat, so that we can turn this crisis round – and so that 2013 and all the ensuing years are years of hope and social progress. We hope that these austerity measures will be the last and that from henceforward a new chapter will open in our lives”.
