Portuguese stay home for Christmas
A new study, undertaken by the institute for the planning and development of tourism (IPDT), has attempted to predict what the Portuguese will be doing for Christmas – and it looks like 96.2% will be staying at home.

That goes for New Year’s Eve as well! The figure is a little higher than the 91% registered in 2010 – and, of course, austerity is the main reason for people’s cuts in leisure spending.
Plans for the summer are just as cowed by pessimism. More than 71% questioned have said they’ll be staying at home for their summer holidays, as well.
The study was taken between 15th and 30th November, and involved 422 telephone interviews in urban areas. People interviewed were all adults, earning between €1000 and €2000 euros per month.
