23 council workers per 1000 Algarvians…
Algarve borough councils increased the number of workers in municipal services last year by 3%, compared to 2010. The news comes from a human resources study into local councils made by DGAL.

According to the national authority, the increase in council workers in the Algarve was “far in excess” of increases for the rest of the country – which stood at an average of just 0.7%. DGAL revealed that the 16 borough councils in the Algarve employed a total of 10.239 workers in 2010, while the year before they’d employed only 9937.
In other words, in one year, there was an overall increase of 302 workers, bringing the number of council workers per 1000 inhabitants to 23 – while the national average is just 13. The only region with more council workers per 1000 inhabitants is the Alentejo…
