Crisis protests at Algarve shopping centres
Algarve shopping centres are feeling the pinch. Only last month the majority of restaurants in Tavira’s Gran Plaza complex shut their doors in protest to the high rents they were being charged - and the fact that the centre’s administrators were not “captivating” the public sufficiently.

The businesses’ owners explained that in spite of the effects of the crisis, their rents had been increased – in some cases to as much as €5.000 per month.
The protest opened a precedent and now more and more shopping centre businesses are protesting to ACRAL (the association of regional small shopkeepers).
With all sorts of legal issues surrounding contract renegotiation, it may well be that more shops and restaurants simply close their doors…
